Hui faces unpaid debt claim by another bank
Standard Chartered Bank has become the fourth financial institution to sue former chief secretary Rafael Hui Si-yan for unpaid debts.迷你倉價錢 The bank is chasing Hui for debts amounting to HK$1.2 million. This brings to about HK$74 million what he allegedly owes other banks and financial institutions. The bank's writ submitted to the High Court yesterday stated that Hui, 65, had credit card debts involving Classic MasterCard, Visa Platinum and Manhattan Gold Visa. In April, the Bank of East Asia filed a High Court writ claiming unpaid debts. It did not specify the amount but it was later reported that Hui had obtained an unsecured loan of HK$60 million. A finance company owned by Sun Hung Kai Properties followed suit. Honour Finance said迷你倉Hui acted as guarantor to a loan of HK$3.16 million that it granted to Top Faith Enterprises, which Hui owned and controlled. Chong Hing Bank also claims that Hui owes the lender HK$9.8 million. The claims come as Hui gets embroiled in the most high- profile corruption case in Hong Kong's history involving Sun Hung Kai Properties' billionaire brothers Thomas Kwok Ping- kwong and Raymond Kwok Ping-luen. They all face charges of conspiracy to commit misconduct in public office. It is alleged that between 2000 and 2009, Hui received about HK$34 million in cash and loans.
