Beaux Arts Ball returns to P'town
Source: Cape Cod Times, Hyannis, Mass.迷你倉Oct. 24--PROVINCETOWN -- A second Beaux Arts Ball at Province負own Town Hall, this year on Nov. 2, will continue the costume ball revival that dates back to 1915.Back then, as now, Province負own was an artistic place, and people loved to dress up.From 1915 into the early 1950s, costume parties were held at Town Hall. The details of who attended and what they wore made the Boston newspapers. Americana painter Norman Rockwell judged one of the costume contests in 1947.A lot has changed in Province負own since then, but the love of costume parties has definitely remained. In 2011, fashion designer Marc Jacobs and his business partner Robert Duffy revived the costume ball tradition with the first Beaux Arts Ball of the 21st century."People went berserk," said this year's producer, Shawn Nightingale, about the 2011 event.Nearly 900 people turned out at Town Hall. A flash mob performed. Debbie Harry, of Blondie, sang. People came decked out as gladiators and ghouls, astronauts and the Addams Family, vampy Victorians, Marie Antoinette and much, much more, as an entertaining search on YouTube of the 2011 event will reveal.Jacobs and Duffy spent lavishly to turn the newly restored Town Hall auditorium into a spooky s儲存倉ectacular with lights, decoration, music and entertainment worthy of event planner Bryan Rafanelli, whose other party planning gigs have included Chelsea Clinton's wedding, according to Nightingale. After Jacobs and Duffy did not sponsor another year in 2012, Nightingale decided to produce the ball himself with Rafanelli as the planner once again. This year tickets are $125 -- rather than $25 -- so tickets have not sold out with the same speed as in the first year, when they were gone in two days, Nightingale said.About 200 tickets were still left as of Wednesday morning, he said.Based on what he's heard so far, this event "also sounds like it's going to be over the top," Nightingale said.Pop star Taylor Dayne will perform. Beer and wine will be available at the open bar.Nightingale expects a sell-out crowd again. The event will raise money for Helping Our Woman, which assists women with chronic or life-threatening diseases; the Provincetown International Film Festival; and the Town Hall Auditorium Fund, which raises money to maintain the beautifully restored 1886 Town Hall.Copyright: ___ (c)2013 the Cape Cod Times (Hyannis, Mass.)
