ACC FOOTBALL REPORT: Hokies, Vols to play at Bristol in 2016
Source: The Free Lance-Star, Fredericksburg, Va.迷你倉Oct. 10--Bristol, Tenn., is merely a pit stop on Interstate 81 between the campuses of Virginia Tech and the University of Tennessee. It also appears to be the location of the next meeting between the schools' football teams.According to The Associated Press, a long-coveted matchup between the Hokies and Volunteers at Bristol Motor Speedway will take place in 2016. An official announcement is set for Monday at the speedway.BMS seats 150,000. The college football attendance record is 115,109, set last month at Michigan Stadium for the Michigan-Notre Dame game.EXUM TO DECIDE THURSDAYVirginia Tech senior cornerback Antone Exum is getting closer to a return to the football field, but whether that happens this Saturday against Pittsburgh is still in question.Exum, who has missed the first six games while recovering from offseason surgery to repair torn ligaments and a bone fracture in his right knee, told reporters he will decide if he's ready to play after Thursday's practice.Exum was cleared for full participation last week, but he decided not to play Saturday against North Carolina because he didn't feel quite ready to make his return. The Hokies are off next week, so Exum may decide to sit against Pitt and have two more weeks to prepare for the Oct. 26 home game with Duke.ALMOST A RECORDBoston College senior running back Andre Williams had a career rushing day against Army on Saturday. He was one yard away from a Boston College single-game record when coach Steve Addazio pulled him from the game.Addazio told reporters afterward that he was unaware that Williams, who had 263 yards and tied a school record with five touchdowns on 30 carries, was on the cusp of breaking the BC record of 264 rushing yards set by Montel Harris in 2009.The coach said he took Williams out as a safety precaution in a blowout game.Williams, who had 204 rushing yards against Wake Forest on Sept. 4, became the first ACC running back to top the 200-yard mark twice in the same season since Virginia Tech's Branden Ore in 2006.Williams averages a nation's best 153.6 rushing yards per game, and his heavy workload figures to continue as the Eagles (3-2, 1-1) head into the meat of their ACC schedule. They visit No. 3 Clemson (5-0, 3-0) on Saturday."For us to have success right now, that's a big part of who we are," Addazio said. "It's great to see, but it's a reflection of a lot of peopl儲存倉 working. It's a reflection of [quarterback] Chase Rettig and a reflection of our offensive line."TASTE OF OWN MEDICINEPaul Johnson's spread-option offense has caused nightmares for opposing teams for years. Now it's time for the Georgia Tech coach to agonize over trying to stop a run-heavy option attack. The Yellow Jackets, who average 300 rushing yards a game, face off against BYU, whose option offense averages 277.8 yards on the ground."This week we have to play assignment defense," Johnson said. "I think that no matter who you play, you've got to eliminate the missed assignments and the big plays."It'll be little bit of a change in gears for the defense, going from Miami, which is a pro-style team, to this. The principles are the same, you have to be consistent and have your eyes where you belong and do what you're supposed to do every week, but it'll be a challenge for [our players], no question."AN ACC FIRSTThree ACC teams--Miami, Florida State and Clemson--are 5-0 for the first time in the conference's 61-year history. The ACC is the only remaining conference with three 5-0 teams. Two of those teams, Miami and Florida State, are off this week. FSU and Clemson face off next Saturday in South Carolina.Nathan Warters: 540/374-5442nwarters@freelancestar.comRISE AND FALLRISINGPITTSBURGH: The Panthers have won three straight, including two in a row against Coastal Division foes, since their opening loss to Florida State.FALLINGNORTH CAROLINA: The Tar Heels have struggled defensively in three consecutive losses.
